About Digital Recording

In the skating world, and I suppose in other disciplines too, everyone wants their music to be loud. So people often try to push up the volume on their recordings. But there is a danger in attempting this. Digital recording has a fixed limit and anything which tries to go above the limit is cut off at the maximum value. This is called “clipping”. Clipping causes distorted sound, which in some cases can be severe. But how can you tell if you’ve gone too far and the music is clipped? This app provides an option to “Show Clipping in Waveforms”. Turn this option on, and the waveform will show purple wherever the amplitude hits the absolute maximum value, an indication that it was likely trying to go higher and was clipped as a result.

More coming soon. This section will describe the basics of digital recording and what youcan do if you are editing music for skating and other types of events to make sure you ge the best possible results.
