Basic Operation

prev   next

The program is designed to be very easy to use. You will probably figure it out pretty well on your own just by experimenting. However, it might still be worth taking a look at a few hints which will help you understand how the program works and how to get the most out of it.

Initial Launch

When first you launch the program, you will initially see an empty window. The program will automatically connect to the server to obtain a list of supported ice rinks. Once this data is received, the list (of two rinks) will be shown in the sidebar on the left hand side of the window. Notice that there is also a button at the top which gives you the option to hide the sidebar, expanding the usable space in the window.

Selecting a Rink and Choosing a Data Tab

To proceed, choose one of the rinks and then choose one of the main tabs — Rink Info, Schedule, Notices, or Photos. As you make selections, the necessary data will be downloaded from the rink’s web server.

Subsequent Launches

When the program is launched again in the future, it will restore your window, your selected rink, and your selected tab to whatever they were when you last quit. In other words, it will try as much as possible to display things just as they were when you last used the program.

The program also stores whatever data you have viewed (schedules, photos, etc.) in a local cache on your computer. This reduces bandwidth usage by avoiding to need to download that same information when it is needed again. It also makes it possible to use the program when you are away from an Internet connection. If you plan on doing so, please read the Refresh Cycle and Offline Use pages later in this guide.
